THE PLAYERS (AGES 12 AND UP)

The Freelance Players Troupe is for young people ages 12 to 16. The Players produce two large-scale original musicals each year, with a professional band, elaborate sets, costumes and lighting. Physical and vocal techniques, improvisation, character development and dance skills are taught in the rehearsal process.

The Players Troupe meets on Wednesdays at the Driscoll School, Brookline, 4:00- 6:30 pm, with occasional weekend rehearsals. Production weeks and performances are at the Park School, Brookline in December and late April/early May. Enrollment is in September and January. Cost: $525 per session (includes a $50 non-refundable registration fee).

Returning Players (includes rising from another Troupe) will have their first meeting on Wednesday, January 24th, 4:00-6:30pm at the Driscoll School, Brookline. Kippy Dewey is the founding Co-Executive Director and oversees all programs of Urban Improv and Freelance Players, Inc. Kippy has taught and directed at the Charles Playhouse and the Next Movie Theatre and held artist residencies in schools throughout the metropolitan Boston area. Kippy is also the founding director of Creative Arts at Park, a multi-arts summer program for young people ages 8-15.

Narcissa Campion is the Managing Director of Urban Improv and a music director for the Freelance Players, Inc. She joined the organization in 1982. Narcissa also chairs the Music Department of Creative Arts at Park, a multi-arts summer program for young people. An accomplished composer and arranger, she has won two Massachusetts Arts Lottery grants for musical theater composition. Narcissa is a graduate of Wellesley College, where she was awarded the Lamb Prize for composition, and the Barrett Fellowship for the study of musical theater. She has composed more than 25 musicals for young people.

Zach Stuart is a filmmaker and arts educator. He was born and raised in Jamaica Plain and has been teaching theater and visual arts in the Boston Area for the past fifteen years. He is the co-founder of Sly Productions, a production company committed to creating thought-provoking media that explores culture, religion and identity across borders. He directs children of all ages in both musical, movement based and straight theater. He directs the Footlight Club Troupe and is the assistant director of the Freelance Players. Zach is also an actor/educator with Urban Improv.
